AB Framework

This work was born of the question: how do we assess a makerspace? As a starting point, libraries capture how many participants attended an event, and some libraries follow up with a survey to learn more about the patrons’ experience. This is a good starting point for most library programs that include lectures or artist talks.

Programs that entice patrons with an opportunity to interact with other patrons might measure other factors like are you a repeat patron or did you bring a friend.

Programs that suggest a patron might learn something may want to understand if the program was what the patron expected or if they patron learned something new.

Makerspace programs are opportunities for patrons to learn or practice a skill and many questions remain as to if and how libraries achieved their goals, and more importantly, whether the program met the patrons needs.

That’s where the AB Framework comes in.
